General Information

I. Chapter Grant Requirements:

  1. All grants are matching funds. The Mid-America Council will pay up to 50% with the chapter committing to the other 50 % (which could include fund raisers).

  2. Maximum payout to any one chapter is $500 per council year.

  3. The lesser of $3,000 or 5% of the fund balance will be awarded during the council year.

  4. Only one grant request, per chapter, may be approved for payment each council year.

  5. Chapter grant requests should be forwarded to the Council President for 2009-2010 chapter year. This person will then coordinate the review by the Executive Committee (President, President-Elect, VP-Education, VP-Communications, Secretary, Treasurer, Regional VP, 1-Past Council President) and give the committee’s report to the council at its regular July meeting.

  6. All grant requests must be completed and received by April 16th, 2009. This is the day before the April council meeting.

  7. Grant requests should be for proposed expenditures; not expenditures already incurred.

  8. Chapters must complete an application form that will be available on the IMA Mid-America Council Website.

  9. Chapters must complete a post grant evaluation form following the actual event.

  10. Chapters will complete a post-event evaluation and send along with expenditure documentation to the Mid-America Council Treasurer..

Mid-America Council of the Institute of Management Accountants 2009 Student Leadership Award

 Application Process Instructions and Selection Criteria Description of the Mid-America Council Student Leadership Award: Students receiving the Mid-America Council Student Leadership Award are recognized for their leadership activities, accomplishments, and involvement in the IMA (at the national, council, chapter and student chapter levels), as well as their leadership achievements in academic or professional activities and all other leadership experiences. Award recipients will receive a $330 stipend to be used to defray some of the costs of attending the IMA Annual Student Leadership Conference that will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, November 5th to 7th, 2009. As part of the award responsibilities, recipients must attend the conference and present or submit a follow-up report.

Number and Amount of Awards:

Three awards of $330 will be granted to IMA student members in good standing affiliated with a chapter or student chapter in the Mid-America Council.

Application Process: Email or mail the following documents to: Diana McCabe, MAC Student Leadership Awards Subcommittee Chair, at mccabed@bhc.edu or to Diana McCabe, Assistant Professor, Black Hawk College, Building 1-363, 6600 34th Avenue, Moline, IL 61265. · Completed application form with student’s signature (email address that includes applicant’s name will be accepted as signature) and IMA member number · Current resume or other document that highlights the student’s leadership activities · Personal statement from the student · Recommendation form from a faculty member or IMA member (this is to be sent directly by the faculty or IMA member) and should not be emailed.

Application Deadline: October 10, 2009 (All materials for a complete application must be received no later than October 10, 2009. Late applications will not be considered.)

Criteria for Selecting Award Recipients: · Leadership activities, accomplishments, and involvement in § IMA at the national, council, chapter or student chapter levels § Other academic or professional related leadership activities § All other leadership activities · Student academic standing § Enrolled in school at least half time (6 hours) during the semester of application and the semester of the IMA Annual Student Leadership Conference § Undergraduate applicants must have declared an accounting major (or accounting emphasis if only a business major is offered) § Graduate applicants must be pursuing a master’s degree in accounting (or accounting emphasis if only a business graduate degree is offered) § Minimum GPA of 2.5 (on 4.0 scale) · Strength of recommendation received from either a faculty member or an IMA member · Persuasiveness of personal statement regarding how the applicant will benefit from attending the conference and what future leadership goals they plan to pursue. The focus of the personal statement could address why the applicant wishes to attend or what the student expects to gain from attending the IMA Annual Student Leadership Conference. This statement is not to exceed two paragraphs; thus it should be concise.

Award Recipient Responsibilities: Each award recipient is responsible for the following. · Register to attend the IMA Annual Student Leadership Conference (go the IMA’s web page at http://www.imanet.org) · Submit the registration confirmation to the Mid-America Council Treasurer to receive the monetary award: Award recipients will be given detailed instructions. Note: It is expected that students would do this in advance of the conference thereby minimizing the out of pocket expenses incurred by the award recipient. · Attend the IMA Annual Student Leadership Conference in the year of the award. Failure to attend the conference will result in an obligation of the student to reimburse the Mid-America Council for the amount of the award received. · Prepare a report regarding the experience of attending the IMA Annual Student Leadership Conference. This report could identify the benefits the student gained from attending the conference, describe the actions they plan to take as a result of their attendance, or provide other reflections on their experience. The student must either § present their report at an IMA meeting such as a student chapter or local chapter meeting or at the Mid-America Council LTS (CLEW) session, or § have it published in the Mid-America Council Newsletter or on the Mid-America Council web page.

Award Selection Committee: All Student Leadership Award applications will be reviewed by the Mid-America Council Student Leadership Awards Subcommittee. The chair of this subcommittee will serve as a facilitator only, thus will not review or vote on applications submitted.

Award Recipient Notification: The selected award recipients will receive notification announcing their selection to receive this award in October 2009. Students will be asked at that time to commit to the terms of the award. If students decline the award, alternate award recipients will be notified.
